When students know exactly what to expect, behavior problems decrease and learning increases. This training focuses on how structure, consistency, and predictability can reduce challenging behavior and increase student success. Participants will explore strategies for establishing clear expectations, building effective routines, and structuring classroom environments that support engagement and regulation. Educators will leave with practical strategies they can immediately implement to create a more organized and supportive classroom environment.
3 PD/EILA Hours will be provided for the training.

Every teacher has had that student who seems to challenge every direction, correction, and request. This training helps educators better understand the patterns and challenges associated with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Participants will explore common triggers for oppositional behavior and learn strategies for reducing power struggles and preventing escalation. Through classroom examples, educators will gain practical tools to respond calmly and strategically while maintaining clear expectations.
2 PD/EILA Hours will be provided for the training.

Join us for a two-day, 12 PD hour, in person bootcamp grounded in Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics by Peter Liljedahl. Peter Liljedahl will join us live via Zoom for a key-note presentation kickoff to the bootcamp, and each participant will receive a copy of the book. This session will focus on practical, classroom-ready strategies for implementing thinking classroom practices across all instructional settings—including general education, co-taught, and resource classrooms. Co-Teaching teams should attend together! Participants will learn how to adapt and apply these practices to meet the needs of diverse learners, with guidance on what implementation can look like in real classrooms.
Effective science instruction begins with a deep understanding of the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Science. In this full-day session, K-12 educators will engage in an interactive exploration of the vision, design, and instructional implications of the standards. Participants will unpack the architecture and organization of the KAS, focusing on the three dimensions that, when used together, support students’ deep understanding of the sciences, how science knowledge is acquired and understood, and how the sciences are all connected through concepts that have a common application across the disciplines.
These three dimensions include: science and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas.
By the end of this session, participants will leave with practical strategies, instructional tools, and resources to support standards-based planning and assessment. Whether you’re new to the KAS for Science or looking to refine your approach, this session will provide clarity, confidence, and actionable takeaways for effective classroom implementation.
Target Audience: Science Educators, Admins, Instructional Coaches

Effective instruction and learning experiences for students are deeply rooted in knowledge of content standards. It is especially important for teachers to deeply know their standards in order to address gaps in learning. This in-person session is ideal for mathematics teachers at all levels (and those who support them) as it will provide clarity around the Kentucky Academic Standards for Mathematics. Participants will learn the overall architecture of the KAS-Math, progressions within the standards, and the rigor and expectation of standards–what mastery of a standard looks like. Additionally, participants will explore congruent instruction, using their own instructional resources as a lens.
Participants should bring a laptop and their instructional materials (if possible).
Target Audience: All teachers of mathematics, instructional coaches, administrators, curriculum coordinators
Please contact mark.helton@ckec.org with any questions.

Improvement requires change. There’s just no way around it. As leaders, our job is to collect input from stakeholders, develop a shared plan that everyone can agree on, and then get to work! But how many times have you looked around after a few months of implementation to discover that some of the staff isn’t implementing the system we all agreed to implement? In this session, participants will gain the valuable tools needed to overcome the challenge of Vocal Opposers, Polite Non-Starters, and Quiet Quitters – and ignite the motivation for change.
Target Audience: Administrators and Principals
EILA Hours: 3
